Baked Lemon Garlic Chicken Legs (Whole30, Paleo)
These Buttery Lemon Garlic Chicken Drumsticks are one of those meals you can throw together on a busy weeknight without a lot of muss and fuss.
Get those drumsticks roasting, mix up the lemony sauce and figure out a side dish. Any veggies or a salad will go great with this chicken dinner. I serve the drumsticks on a fresh salad then spoon some cooking juices right over the top for my dressing. Done and Done.
The best part about this dish is the bright flavor. I get so disappointed when I follow a recipe for LEMON anything and it ends up not being very lemony. I’ll just warn any of you that may have timid tastebuds . . . this chicken is All About The Lemon!
These Lemon Garlic Chicken Drumsticks get that rich buttery flavor from ghee. So this is Whole30/Paleo compliant.
How Long Does It Take To Cook Drumsticks In The Oven
At 425ºF it takes chicken legs 35-45 minutes to cook, depending on the size of the drumsticks. You want to cook the chicken to an internal temp of 165ºF.
Tips For Baked Chicken Legs
- You can use other cuts of chicken. I use chicken drumsticks because my daughter enjoys them and they are inexpensive. This method will work great for breasts or thighs, just be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- This recipe makes 4-5 drumsticks which will feed 2 people. The recipe can be easily doubled for larger portions or additional servings.
- If lemon is more flavor than you prefer, fresh squeezed orange tastes great too.
- Add your favorite spice blend to the sauce. This tastes great as is but a little extra spice will just make it that much better.

you only feed your family 1 drumstick each? Do you serve this with a side of something?
Nicole Harris says
Nope, I only have to feed 3 myself. So this recipe as is works for a small family or (as noted) this recipe can be doubled for larger portions. Here is a link to my side dish recipes → https://wonkywonderful.com/category/sidedishes/
Jennifer Manuel says
Can you use minced garlic instead of grated garlic? Sorry, lazy person over here who doesn’t want to grate….
Nicole Harris says
Hahah! Absolutely, I’m all for being lazy in the kitchen. But, how lazy can you really be when you’re making a home cooked meal 😀
